So, I love burgers. I grew up in an American suburb in a nuclear family and ate burgers like every other kid in my town. I like to say that I have good knowledge on what a proper burger tastes like and how it should look. I have expectations.
Fiveten Burger is a food truck that’s based out of Oakland. They bounce around between being parked out front of bars and regular food truck gatherings. They offer the usual burgers but with a little flair. Their most popular items would be their Loaded burger with garlic oil fries. That’s right, garlic oil fries. It’s every vampire’s nightmare but once you’ve had them, you lust after them like some kind of pre-teen foodie. They also offer grilled cheese and truffle oil tater tots (D:).
While I’d love to say there isn’t a downside, well, no one is perfect. About 80% of the time, I get the burger I love and everything is beautiful. But that 20% percent still happens. Like today.
This is what I received today:
When I shook out the contents of the bag, the fries poured out in a never ending stream, the garlic oil creating a nice aroma. The burger plopped out like an afterthought. I arranged it on my plate and gave it a good look.
First question: where is the meat? It’s hiding between the seemingly too large buns, waiting for the light of day. Unfortunately, the burger also looked like it was created as an afterthought, not much care was given to it. The wrapper was pretty greasy, but it’s something I expect in a burger. But the small amount of red onion and the sad limp lettuce did not make this burger too inviting. But I shrugged and took a bite anyways.
So, this is what I saw after 3 bites (first two was just of bread). There’s plenty of meat to cheese ratio but that’s about it. Red onion pieces hung around limply as decoration, as did the lettuce. There’s suppose to be mayo but I didn’t see any evidence of such. Also, this was suppose to be cooked to medium but there was not a trace of pink to be found and the amount of salt used on the patty was a bit overwhelming.
While this only happens 20% of the time, it’s really disappointing every time. The fries do makeup for what the burger lacks and I’m always licking my fingers afterwards. Normally, I get a delicious burger with gooey cheese and crunchy veggies. Besides all of this, I always finish every burger.
You get a 6/10 from me, redeeming quality was the fries.
